The Thread, 2015, video
15 minutes, 30 seconds
In the film The Thread by Belgian artist Hans Op de Beeck we see a love story of two people in its essence: girl meets boy, they fall in love and years later she dies in his arms. The puppets are almost life-size according to the tradition of the Japanese Bunraku theater and are played by anonymous puppeteers who are on stage on the same level. Characteristic of Op de Beeck’s work, but also in the tradition of the Bunraku theatre, the film reflects on the universal themes of love, mortality and loss. In The Thread, the puppets are the main actors.
