Grotto, 2018, interactive installation
The work of Dutch designer Bart Hess is on the border of art and design and can evoke both fascination and disgust. His use of materials is extremely physical, as in his installation Grotto where the latex pillars are reminiscent of wrinkled skin. It is almost as if you enter a living cave. In the context of ROBOT LOVE, Grotto raises questions about the materialisation of robots. Why is the prevailing image of robots still that of smooth and cold machines resembling people?
