Suspended Animation, 2018, 3D printed fashion/technology
Maartje Dijkstra is a Dutch fashion designer who works at the interface of fashion, art and technology. In her designs she regularly combines fine handwork such as unique embroidery, with new techniques like 3D printing. She often co-produces with musicians and performers, as in this work Suspended Animation for which she collaborated with music and multimedia artist Beorn Lebenstedt (Newk). Several 3D printed parts of the dress mimic the natural phenomena of hibernation and how the body temporarily comes to a halt during this process.
